Microneedling is the latest treatment to come to Christchurch Derma Spa Skin Clinic, as of August 2026, and I know lots of you will be wondering does microneedling improve your skin texture?
The short answer is yes. If you’d like to know more about how it works and the benefits of microneedling, you’ll find those below.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is an advanced skin treatment which involves making tiny holes in the top layer of your skin, with needles (very small ones – hence ‘micro’ needling). These micro ‘injuries’ prompt your skin’s immune response, triggering white blood cells and healing. This healing process results in collagen production amongst other things.
Microneedling is usually done with a ‘pen’ on the face, neck or chest, although you can have in in other areas too.
Microneedling benefits
Due to the healing process being triggered in your skin, the benefits of microneedling can be:
- A reduction in the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation
- A brighter complexion
- Minimised open pores for smoother looking skin
- Improved appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
It also helps your skin care reach deeper into your skin, often making it more effective.
What’s the difference between microneedling and microdermabrasion?
Whilst both skin treatments can improve the look and feel of your skin, they are quite different procedures.
Microdermabrasion is a form of exfoliation, which buffs off the top layer of your skin revealing newer, fresher skin underneath.
Whereas microneedling is penetrating your top layer of skin, triggering your body to respond and encourage cell turnover.
