If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen me talking about getting booked in for specific treatments at this time of year, and you might be wondering why autumn is the best time to treat your skin?
There are a few reasons autumn is a great time to start a course of clinical skin treatment, I’ll explain them below.
Repairing summer damage
Your skin generally takes a bit of a beating over the summer months. We tend to spend so much time outside in the summer months, and we don’t always remember to put on our SPF. Even with wearing sunscreen every day, if you spend enough time outside, you’ll like still pick up a tan. And a tan is your body’s way of protecting itself from sun damage.
In September, any seasonal concerns will usually be at their highest. This includes pigmentation and for those with hyperpigmentation, by this time in the year it’s often at it’s worst. But the good news is, as we move into Autumn, it’s the perfect time to treat pigmentation – the sun begins to weaken, we spend a bit less time outside and there’s plenty of time for recovery time to happen before Christmas socialising begins!
Planning ahead for treatments
Many of the skin care treatments we offer at Christchurch Derma Spa Skin Clinic require approx. (or a minimum of) 6 – 10 sessions. These are often spread out weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the treatment.
If you start your course in autumn, it gives you enough time to complete this before the summer months arrive again.
For sessions that are recommended weekly, like CACI non-surgical facelifts, starting in autumn means you’ll be feeling fabulous by Christmas.
Other treatments, such as laser hair reduction, are recommended every 4 weeks, and since 6 x 4 weeks = nearly six months, the sooner you start in the cooler months, the better. This treatment can’t be carried out during the summer, if you’ll be exposed to the sun.
Treatment restrictions
Some treatments aren’t recommended during the summer months, particularly laser treatments. This is due to the way they work and the additional risk to your skin from UV and sun damage whilst undergoing those treatments.
That’s why my diary is always super full over autumn/winter – I’m busy lasering lots of clients who want to be hair free for the following summer!
